Elon+Twitter: a Love Story, Coming in Hot, 75th Anniversary

**NOTHING HERE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED INVESTMENT ADVICE**

Good morning to all my wingmen and wingwomen out there. Here are a few noteworthy and tasty bites worth digesting. Enjoy!

The Elon and Twitter back and forth saga seems as though it’s been going on for a couple years, but it’s been a little over a week.

A lot has happened and here’s a basic recap:

  • Elon uses Twitter several different ways…..whether trolling people, providing updates on his companies or taking public polls, he’s very active.

  • So much, he decided he wanted to take it to the moon (….this time figuratively, not literally. We think.)

  • He then purchased a 9.2% stake in the company via share purchases.

  • Was offered a seat on the board which he signaled he was interested in.

  • He then rejected that offer and decided to make his last and final offer, and decided he wants to take the company private.

  • Given the Board’s fiduciary duty to shareholders, no one believed they would likely accept said “last and final” offer.

  • IMHO, current board are extremely proven and credible business leaders…..and didn’t believe they were the type of people to entertain such theatrics.

  • Board met and decided to dish up a healthy serving of the ole corporate “poison pill”…….again, IMO just doing what the board believes they should be doing in the best interest of the company.

Elon’s latest cryptic tweet on the topic of “Love Me Tender” has some scratching their heads. What’s his next move? Does he even have enough liquid cash to make this happen or would he have to sell more Tesla stock to do so? Is that even a smart decision for him to consider?

And now even Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, is criticizing the Twitter board. A board which he technically still sits on as a board member! Things are getting pretty bizarre and interesting with all of these things at play!

And the one question you always have to consider with Elon….. is this whole thing real or is this just how the world’s richest people have fun? In the end, per usual, time will tell.

Last week it was reported that US consumer prices saw a 8.5% rise in March. This equates to the largest rise in consumer prices the US has experienced in my lifetime (…..same goes for everyone 41 years old or younger).

But here are some very helpful ways that you can navigate, mitigate, and propagate (……be honest, after reading that did you think of Kanye West even for a split second?) inflation.

Don’t drive, don’t eat meat, don’t buy new clothes, don’t fly on planes, and don’t eat Frosted Flakes because prices for all these items aren’t “Ggrrreeaaattt!!” ( 😏 )

Ok, maybe that’s not so helpful. But here’s why I say that. Year-over-year price spikes were widespread. Specifically….

  • Fuel prices shot up 48%

  • Used car prices soared 35% (….which is actually an improvement month over month)

  • Bacon and oranges are both up 18%

  • Pork is up 15.3%

  • Cereal is up around 10%

Time to panic? Maybe not, as core CPI (….which removes food and energy prices given their volatility) only grew 0.3% month over month, vs expectation of 0.5%.

In a time when good news isn’t always flowing, this is something positive worth highlighting. More so, perhaps it indicated core inflation has peaked and we’ve made it the other side.

And even if we’re slowly starting to see core inflation on the decline, we’re still far away from the Fed’s inflation target if 2%. Nonetheless, we are [potentially] trending in the right direction and if true, that really is…….Ggrrreeaaattt!!

The NBA playoffs have officially kicked off and timing couldn’t be better IMO……I’m excited! In my mind this year doesn’t have just one team that is a lock to win the championship. The field is wide open and will make for a great playoff series.

And given the NBA is THE dominate professional sports league, this even playing field will draw more people to tune in! But just because I think the playing field is even, don’t get it twisted, the odds show who the favorites are to win it all below…..

  • Suns: +255 (…..clear favorite)

  • Bucks: +475

  • Nets: +600

  • Celtics: +850

  • Warriors: +850

  • Heat: +1000

  • Grizzlies: +1300

  • 76ers: +1400

  • Jazz: +2200

  • Nuggets: +3500

  • Mavericks: +4000

  • Timberwolves: +7000

  • Raptors: +8000

  • Pelicans: +12000

  • Hawks: +12000

  • Bulls: +12000
